Detailed design work on a proposed new leisure centre and library in West Wickham is underway.

If the proposal is eventually accepted, it would be Bromley’s second combined swimming pool, leisure and library facility, with a similar business operating in Biggin Hill.

Bromley Councillor Peter Morgan said: "A new building, replacing the existing leisure centre, but also incorporating a library and potentially residential accommodation, would bring modern facilities to West Wickham.

"We need to make sure that any proposal that is brought forward is both viable and feasible and then we will consult local people. Only after this point will a planning application be submitted and therefore, we are early stages of this project."

If a future application is granted, a new building would replace the existing leisure facility, incorporating a 25-metre swimming pool and a library.

The current library site would be used for housing.

The project was recently boosted with the appointment of company’s Perfect Circle and Montagu Evans who will expand initial concept work.

Director of Perfect Circle, Duncan Green, added: "We’re incredibly proud to be involved, delivering full multi-consultancy services for this significant refurbishment – including architecture, building services and structural and civil engineering - and are working closely with Bromley Council to design a contemporary, new scheme that will truly benefit the local community."

An initial public consultation is expected to take place in the early part of 2019.
