A PROLIFIC shoplifter has been jailed for six months.

Philip Atkinson, of Glebe Street, Leigh, admitted to committing five counts of theft in the town between November 4 to 17 and stealing a drill worth £140 from B and Q in Wigan on December 6.

In Leigh, the 39-year-old stole eights bottles of spirits, a bottle of champagne and razors.

He also attempted to take four bottles of spirits from Asda on November 5.

By being found guilty of entering Leigh town centre six times, Atkinson breached a criminal behaviour order imposed on him last December which led to him being sent to prison for six months.

For each of the theft-related offences, the defendant was given six week concurrent sentences.

He has also been ordered to pay a victim services surcharge fee of £115.

Atkinson was sentenced at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates' Court last Monday.
