TRIBUTES have been pouring in for a teenager who was found dead in woodland.

The body of 19-year-old Alicia Sidebotham, from Atherton, was discovered by police officers after they were called to a wooded area off Broadway in Over Hulton on Monday morning.

Police say there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding Ms Sidebotham's death and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

People have since taken to social media to pay tribute to Alicia. Her Facebook profile has been turned into a remembrance page.

Virginia Maria Barrington posted: "Rip beautiful God always takes the best. Thoughts are with your family and friends xx"

Bosses at the Indiependence nightclub in Wigan have also paid tribute to her. "We are all devastated to hear about Alicia," they said.

"She was one of our most regular and most loved customers. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends."

Dave Sweetmore a DJ at the venue, posted a picture of Alicia and added: "RIP Alicia. Awful news."

After her body was discovered, residents from neighbouring streets shared their shock.

One resident of Upton Road, adjacent to the area which was restricted by police, said: "There was a team of police who cordoned off the road.

"It's devastating, especially when it's on your doorstep. It's tragic."

Noel Fitzgerald, a resident of Broadway, said: "I saw police and people in high-visibility. I thought it could be the council."

Another Broadway resident said: "There were lots of police around, an ambulance and a helicopter.

"It's a very nice, quiet neighbourhood.

"I would never have expected anything like this."

Broadway is a residential street, leading to a public footpath surrounded by woods and the Pretoria Pit memorial.

The footpath runs alongside Upton Road and Greenfield Road.

An eyewitness said: "There was heavy police presence and ambulance and a rapid response team.

"When we arrived around 9ish we couldn't gain access to the farm via Broadway due to it being blocked and taped off.

"They left around 2ish and we were aware that a body had been taken away.

"At that point we were not aware it was a young girl."
