A MAN has been rearrested in connection with the murder investigation of a 21-year-old.

Police were called by the ambulance service at around 9.35pm on Friday, December 28 after Billy Livesley, from Platt Bridge, had been assaulted on Bickershaw Lane in Abram.

The victim was taken to hospital where he died the following evening with a Home Office post mortem examination finding that Billy died from a significant head injury.

A 38-year-old man - who was previously arrested on suspicion of attempted murder as part of this investigation – was released with no further action.

As a result of Billy’s death, police launched a murder investigation and after further enquiries, the 38-year-old has now been rearrested on suspicion of murder and threats to kill.

He remains in custody for questioning.

Two men – aged 38 and 57 – were previously arrested on Saturday, December 29.

A 57-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit attempted murder and was released under investigation.

A 22-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of murder on Tuesday January, 8 and has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Peter Connor, 31, of no fixed address is charged with murder. He appeared at Manchester Crown Court last week.

There will be a further case management hearing at the court on February 4 and a trial has been listed to start on June 24.

Enquiries remain ongoing regarding the investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact GMP’s Major Incident Team on 0161 856 8797, or 101 quoting incident number 1,983 of December 28.
