A KIND-hearted IT engineer has had his hair chopped off in aid of a cause close to the hearts of his work colleagues.

Barney Warburton, of Taunton Avenue, Leigh had 14 inches of his hair cut which will be donated to the Little Princess Trust .

The charity provides real hair wigs for free to children and young people up to the age of 24 that have lost their own due to cancer treatment and other illnesses.

Barney, 22, has also set up a crowdfunding page to support Wigan and Leigh Hospice, which has supported family members of his colleagues at Hindley Green-based Abtec.

Former Westleigh High School student Barney said: “I felt like having a change to my style recently and I thought I could help the hospice at the same time.

“Everyone is used to seeing me with long hair and having a lot of different styles.

"I have known my girlfriend Rachel for five years and she has never seen it short like it is now.

"It’s been long for about 11 years.

“None of my family have had to go to the hospice but I know how good it has been after speaking to people I work with.”

Barney had his hair made into plaits and cut off at Peter Lawson Hair in Atherton on Wednesday.
