MORE than 200 pairs of children’s shoes were placed on the steps of a landmark to raise awareness for young people losing their lives due to suicide.
The Papyrus charity and Radio City came together for Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week by leaving the shoes at St George’s Hall in Liverpool on Monday.
Each pair of shoes represent the 226 schoolchildren who died from suicide in 2017. The move went viral online with thousands of people sharing the poignant images.
In a tweet, NW Motorway Police said: "Heartbreaking. 226 pairs of shoes to represent the children who die by suicide each year.
"Each pair tells a story from the pink DocMartins to spotted wellies and blue trainers. We are here 24/7 if you need to talk in confidence free 116123 Pass it on."
A Facebook post on the page Chasing the Stigma has also now been shared more than 11,000 times explaining the reason behind the display of shoes.
