PLANS have been submitted to build 218 homes with half of them set to be available for affordable housing.

Proposals for land at the northern side of Bridgewater Business Park in Leigh would make 109 homes on offer for affordable housing.

An outline application to build 372 homes at the business park was approved two years ago.

The new plans state there would be 48 apartments, 71 two-bedroom houses and 99 three-bedroom houses built by MCI Developments at the site, which would be managed by Your Housing Group.

A planning document outlines "at least 50 per cent" of the homes at the West Bridgewater Street site would be available for "affordable tenure".

The document states: "It is anticipated that the majority of the new homes will be occupied by young families and people in full time employment helping to ensure the economically active.

"The resultant schemes will, if approved, provide 218 new much needed energy efficient homes with the intention that they will all be built for Your Housing Group, with at least 50 per cent of the units being affordable tenure.

"These new homes will help to contribute towards addressing the identified need for new modern affordable homes in this area of Leigh.

"Your Housing Group will use its own funds to help deliver this scheme, along with a significant proposed investment by Homes England.

"This funding will enable the scheme to be delivered within a short time frame should approval be granted."

Proposals have also been made to provide a car park for Christ Church Pennington CE Primary School subject to the school's approval.

A neighbourhood consultation is in place until March 6 and a decision is expected to be made in May.
