RESIDENTS are being urged to go to a consultation tomorrow afternoon, Thursday, about long term plans to build homes and employment space.

A session will be held at Lowton High School on Newton Road between 4pm and 7pm where people will be encouraged to have their say.

Proposals published in the New Year outlined proposals to create 160,000 sq/m of business space south of Pennington in Leigh.

A nearby site at Pocket Nook in Lowton would also see 600 homes built there and around 15,000 sq/m of business space allocated there.

The plans are part of the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework (GMSF) in which 21,400 homes are set to be delivered in the borough by 2037.

Wigan Council leader, Cllr David Molyneux, said: “It is important that people have their say on this revised draft plan whether they agree with its new direction or still have concerns.

“We need to hear people’s views so that we can take this important process through to the next stage.”

Information from the five consultations in the borough this month will be collected together in preparation for a new draft to be published for consultation in the summer.
