A TRIAL has been set for a man accused of causing the death of an 80-year-old woman who was hit by a car last year.
Alice Berry was crossing the northbound lane of Leigh Road in Leigh on Sunday, June 3 when she was hit by a Citroen Picasso.
Jamie Hawkins, 36, of Essex Place, Tyldesley has been charged with causing Alice's death by driving without due care and attention.
He entered a plea of not guilty when he appeared at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates' Court yesterday, Wednesday.
The case has been sent to Bolton Crown Court with a trial listed to start on March 13.
Following Alice's death, her family released a statement which said: “She was the best mother and grandmother anyone could have.
“She was loved by all and a friend to many.
"She will be sadly missed by us all."
