AN air ambulance has been called to the scene of a serious car crash.
Representatives from the ambulance service say a person has been rushed to hospital and another left injured in the incident in Chorley Old Road, near the junction with Mortfield Lane.
One of the injured parties is described as a woman in her 20s, although the identity of the other person is unknown.
The crash happened at around noon, with ambulances, firefighters and police called to the scene at 12.05pm.
The air ambulance landed on nearby fields off Avenue Street, used by Bolton Rugby Union Club but it is not thought to have taken any patients away from the area, with one injured person taken by paramedics in a regular ambulance.
Chorley Old Road was closed in both directions and is expected to cause major traffic disruption.
A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision. We are treating two patients, one is a female believed to be in her 20s."
