CREATIVE writers at a care home have teamed up to work on a poem to mark the 40th anniversary of the Golborne Colliery mining disaster.
An underground explosion at pit on March 18, 1979, led to the deaths of 10 miners and seriously injured another one.
Golborne House care home's poet corner has worked on a project to turn the language used by writer Bob Welch in his new poem, "The Bench By The Old Squeaky Gate", which captures memories of the tragedy, into a piece of work with a strong Lancashire voice.
The new poem is titled "Bench By Th'owd Squeaky Gate" and reflects the dialect used by residents in the town at the time of the disaster.
Bob said: "It was a very thought-provoking project prompting lots of input and discussion from within the community and the poetry group with many vivid memories of that day 40 years ago."
