A WOMAN has expressed her anger after being told damage to her roof appears to have been caused by would-be lead thieves.

Alison Beckinsale, of Glebe Street, Leigh called a roofer when water was leaking through a bedroom ceiling.

When the tradesman went on to the roof of the terraced property he noticed metal flashing, which is designed to prevent flooding, had been ripped up and a square area had been removed.

It is believed thieves managed to get on the roof and started removing the metal sheeting thinking it was made of lead, but then discovered it was actually made of a lesser value metal such as aluminium.

Hairdresser Alison, 32, lives at the house with her partner and two children, aged seven and 11 months.

She said: "When the roofer looked at it he said it is clearly someone who tried to get the flashing off.

"They thought is was lead and then realised it wasn't and left.

"It has made me angry that they think they can come along and do this.

"It is annoying when you work for a living and now we will have to pay for this to be redone."

Alison will now examine CCTV footage from last weekend, when it is thought that the incident happened.
