SCOUTS jetting off to America have been given a boost to buy equipment.

District commissioner Steve Ralph approached Atherleigh councillors to support them for their two-week trip to Philmont in New Mexico.

The group will be meeting up with other groups around the world as part of the international Scout Jamboree.

The funds have come from the Brighter Borough allocation of ward councillors John Harding, Mark Aldred and Debra Wailes to buy gear such as stoves and rucksacks.

Cllr John Harding said “ The Scouts who are going on the Jamboree have raised their fares themselves or by contributions from family and friends.

"Our support ensures they have the best and right equipment to attend the event safely.

The kit will be available for future use for many years to come and we wish them well”.

Cllr Mark Aldred added: “ We are happy to support these young people in what is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be involved in the biggest Scout event in the world.”

District Commissioner and Queen’s Scout Steve Ralph has expressed his gratitude for the investment.

He said: “ We are extremely grateful for the support of our Atherleigh councillors.

"Their help has made it possible for fourteen young people to attend an event that will be an unforgettable experience”.
