FREE advice will be on offer today, Wednesday, on National No Smoking Day.

Wigan Council's health improvement service Healthy Routes, delivered by City Health Care Partnership CIC, will be on hand at its store on Bradshawgate in Leigh until the closing time of 5pm.

No Smoking Day is a UK-wide annual health awareness campaign that aims to encourage smokers to give up the habit for good.

According to Public Health England, smokers are up to four times more likely to quit successfully with support from a service such as Healthy Routes.

Healthy Routes’ team leader Karen Mitchinson: “Healthy Routes is focused on improving the health of people across the Borough.

"No Smoking Day is a great opportunity for our local people to make the first step in their quit smoking journey.

"Our free, 1-2-1 support enables people to make long-lasting health improvements and we’re proud of the results they achieve.”

Healthy Routes’ service is free to people who live, work or are registered at a GP surgery in the borough.

Advisors are based in community venues across the borough, including GP surgeries and health centres, as well as over the phone and in two high-street shops.

The service provides a range of health improvement services including alcohol reduction, weight management advice, physical activity plans and general wellbeing improvement.

Health advisors can also connect residents to more specialist support if required.

To sign up to the service contact 01942 489012, text "HUB" to 61825 (normal network rates apply) or book an appointment at www.healthyrouteswigan.co.uk.
