NURSERY staff have completed a 100 mile cycling challenge to support a fertility cause.

A team of nine including staff at Stepping Stones Day Nursery in Boothstown, formerly Little Acorns Day Nursery, finished the challenge on a static bike in six hours and forty minutes at Ellesmere Shopping Centre in Walkden.

They done it in aid of The Fertility Foundation, with money raised going to a crowdfunding campaign set up by parent Barbara McMillan, who is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa in September.

Barbara, a teacher at Boothstown Methodist Primary School, gave birth to her son Frankie in 2016 after enduring five years of infertility issues and having three surgeries.

Barbara and Frankie on the day of the cycle challenge

Frankie, now aged three, goes to the Leigh Road nursery.

Barbara, 35, said: "Events like this open people's eyes to what some families are going through. People do not talk about this issue.

"There were people stopping to share their stories on the day and they thought what we were doing was great.

"Passers-by were generous with donating."

Around £390 was raised from the event.

On Saturday Barbara will be doing a 10 peak challenge at the Lake District with her friend Helen Bradley as part of her campaign.

The pair will then climb the three biggest peaks in the UK, Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mount Snowdon, on June 1.
