THE East Lancs Road was shut last night, Saturday at the junction of Newton Road after a man fled from the scene of a crash.
At around 10.30pm a man hit a car in Lowton before driving into a traffic light, causing serious damage.
A member of the public who witnessed the crash, directed traffic around the scene and switched off the ignitions in both cars as they were leaking fuel.
Several other people chased the male who fled from the scene and detained him until police arrived.
Officers from Greater Manchester Police arrested the man and the road was shut for around two hours.
