SCHOOL pupils were treated to a visit from a Queen's guardsman yesterday, Wednesday.
John Bogg from the 1st Battalion Irish Guards went to St Philip's CE Primary School in Atherton where he spoke about his career and what it is like to work for the Queen.
He was dressed in a full ceremonial outfit including a bearskin hat in his time at the Bolton Old Road school.
The visit was arranged as part of the pupils' studies in learning about the Queen.
Children had plenty of fun on the day and enjoyed trying on uniforms and bearskin hats as well as being taught to march and salute the Queen.

Vice chairman of the Atherton Royal British Legion branch James Paul Watson served with the Irish Guards for 20 years and worked with John.
It was James, 40, that invited John to the school.

Parents and teaching staff were also thrilled by the visit.
Teacher Miss Cooney said: "What a fantastic opportunity for our children to meet a Queen’s Guardsman and hear first-hand what it’s like to work for the Queen.
"The children have been so enthused and inspired by this unique and wonderful experience."
