THREE men have pleaded guilty to arson after a house fire incident last year.

The men were charged after a fire on Montreal Street in Leigh just before 12.30am on October 16 where a woman in her 60s was taken to hospital in a critical condition and suffered serious burns.

A 10-day trial started at Manchester Crown Court last week where Andrew Bamford, 38, of no fixed address, admitted to causing arson with intent to endanger life on the first day.

Zana Ali, 34, Thirlmere Road, Leigh, and Jake Hignett, 22, of Kimberley Avenue, St Helens pleaded guilty to arson with being reckless as to whether life is endangered.

They both admitted the same charges in relation to a fire two days earlier than the Montreal Street blaze on October 14 at a house on Mardale Road in Huyton.

Neil Stanton, 41, of Lower Hall Lane, St Helens admitted arson with being reckless as to whether life is endangered in relation to the Huyton fire.

They are due to be sentenced at the same court on Thursday, May 30.
