PRIMARY school pupils created a historical exhibition after revisiting their area's past over the course of a week.

Classes at Lowton St Mary's CE Primary School studied different aspects of history such as Bickershaw and Parkside collieries as well as Golborne Colliery, and the pit disaster there in 1979.

They learnt about the lives of historical figures such as Victoria Cross winner Albert Wilkinson, from Leigh, too.

Children also focussed on the history of the railway line that ran through Lowton as well as the Manchester to Liverpool route.

Other topics they covered included researching their school and St Mary's Church along with its graveyard.

Parents, carers and grandparents were invited to the Newton Road school to bring in the children's work they had completed.

The work contributed to an exhibition titled Lowton Lane in reference to taking people back in time down "memory lane".
