A PROLIFIC shoplifter who was on licence from prison has been jailed again after carrying a kitchen knife in public.
James Alty, of Ludlaw Drive, Leigh was found with the blade on Westminster Drive on Sunday.
The 26-year-old committed the offence while he was on licence from prison following a five-month sentence handed to him after he stole meat from a Co-Op shop in Leigh on March 25.
The meat theft breached a suspended sentence handed to him.
The suspended sentence was given to Alty on March 11 after he assaulted a woman and carried out nine shop thefts.
Appearing at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, he was jailed for 18 weeks and also ordered to pay £12.08 in compensation for damaging a police blanket.
