COMIC opera The Mikado is set to grace the Leigh stage next week to celebrate the 50th anniversary of a musical society.
St Joseph’s Hall on Chapel Street, Leigh will host the Japan set production from Tuesday until Saturday, May 18 with a 7.30pm start time.
Performed by The Three Towns Operatic Society, the play tells the story of the town of Titipu which needs to hold an execution or be downgraded to a village.
In true Gilbert and Sullivan style, the town set about convincing the Mikado the execution has taken place.
Throw in a love triangle and great music – what more can you ask for.
Although set in Japan, the play pokes fun at English people’s attitudes and perceptions.
