A MUM has expressed her pride after winning the first beauty pageant she has entered.

Theresa Vaughan, from Leigh, was presented with the Director's choice Miss Vintage in a competition in Chorley last Saturday.

The 31-year-old took part in the contest, which was organised by  14-year-old Ruby Smith, who recently won a Miss Wigan title.

Theresa said: "It was a very proud day for both myself and Ruby.

"It's lovely to now be part of the beauty pageant family.

"I was a little apprehensive about doing my first beauty pageant at the age of 31 but it just goes to show that pageants are for anyone of any age and are for a great cause.

"While I was there everyone was so welcoming to me and they could not believe it was the first pageant I had ever been in as they said I was a 'natural' and very confident.

"I was even invited to take part in other beauty pageants which was so lovely and encouraging."

Theresa has been interested in vintage fashion since studying textiles at Bolton University in 2015.

"I absolutely love vintage," Theresa said.

"This is what attracted me to the pageant as there was a vintage wear section as well as an evening wear section.

"Ruby did amazingly well, the day was well organised and very professional.

"I love my tiara that was given to me, it even matched my vintage-style dress."

Around £480 was raised from for Ruby's chosen charity, Children's Liver Disease Foundation.
