POLICE are hunting for the driver of a white van who assaulted a 12-year-old boy in a car park – whilst the child was out walking with his mother.

Wiltshire Police says that at around 10.20pm, on May 26, a white van pulled up in front of the pair outside the Co-Op in Boscombe Road, Amesbury.

The driver, who was unknown to them, got out and shouted abuse at the boy before then assaulting him.

The victim’s mother intervened and man left the area.

Officers say that the victim was left scared and upset, but was not injured in the incident.

The driver is described as white, large build, with grey hair and aged in his mid 50's.

He was wearing a checked shirt, and jeans.

The appeal from police read: "We believe that this was an isolated incident and a number of enquiries are ongoing including analysis of CCTV in the area.

"We would like to hear from anyone who has information."
