A MAN has been handed a community order after carrying a kitchen knife in a public place.

Lewis Hart, of Mort Lane, Tyldesley admitted being in possession of the weapon on Sale Way on May 9.

The 25-year-old was ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work, given a six-month alcohol dependency course and told to pay a victim services surcharge fee of £85 and court costs of £85.

He was sentenced at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
