THIS photograph shows development workers setting arches at the head of a roadway below ground at Parsonage Colliery in Leigh.

The picture, which shows the three employees using a specially adapted platform, was taken around 1980.

The colliery became part of the National Coal Board in 1947 and was subsequently linked to Golborne and Bickershaw collieries.

Parsonage Colliery closed in early 1992.
