RUNNERS who love a laugh are being invited to don fancy dress for the Leigh Community 10K.

The third Leigh 10K will take place in Leigh town centre on August 11, when 1,000 people are expected to walk, jog or run the course.

Once again Wigan and Leigh Hospice, which cared for almost 1,200 residents with incurable illnesses last year, will be the main charity partner.

Maxine Armstrong, fundraising and lottery manager for the hospice, said: “This is a great course for people who want to get a Personal Best because it’s a nice, flat course.

“However, we know people in Wigan and Leigh are always up for a laugh, which is why we are inviting our participants to dress up, have lots of fun and make this an event to remember.”

A prize of a six-month gym membership at any Inspiring healthy lifestyles managed Leisure Centre will be awarded to the person who wears the most original costume.

All runners, joggers and walkers of any ability can join in the second Leigh Community 10K as long as you are over 15 years of age on the day of the event.

Standard entry fee is £17 or £15 if you run for a UK Athletics/ARC Running Club.

You can register for a place in the race at leigh10k.co.uk

You can also make a direct donation to Wigan and Leigh Hospice when you register or raise money for a charity of your choice.

Inspiring healthy lifestyles, FCR Events Ltd, Leigh Harriers, Nectar Creative, Rotary Club of Leigh, Time2Run Events, Wigan and Leigh Hospice and Wigan Council are all working together once again to put on the event with the support of Leigh MP, Jo Platt.
