THE Lowton Women's Institute group is inviting anyone interested to learn more about the organisation to get in touch.

Lowton WI meet on the first Thursday of every month at 7.15 pm.

The meetings are held at Lowton Social Club on Newton Road, Lowton.

The August meeting is to be titled 'Heartbeat with Sian'.

At its July meeting, the group decided to mark American Independence Day, which fell on Thursday, July 4 with the title for the evening's talk Over Paid....Over Here

Members turned up wearing red, white and blue for the event.

Lynn Halliwell, of the Lowton WI, said: "We were pleased to meet John Cotterill and Bob Foster who entertained us with a short film and stories from the former base camp known as RAF Burtonwood.

"After the invasion of Pearl Harbour, the Americans joined WW2 and the American army arrived in Burtonwood at the end of 1942.

"It was both a moving and interactive evening which all our members enjoyed, prompting nostalgic memories for many."

Anyone looking for a new interest and who would like to learn more about the Women’s Institute, is asked to telephone Lin Hayes on 01942 207764 to arrange a visit.
