MPs have blasted Boris Johnson as “unfit to be prime minister” and a “man-child”.

Brighton Kemptown Labour MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle railed against Mr Johnson after he was voted in as the new Conservative leader... and therefore the PM.

And the Labour MP called on “all patriots” to oppose him.

He said: “Boris Johnson is a man who represents the worst of populism, an extremist who panders to whatever audience that is there.

“Many of his colleagues are some of the worst of the worst and even they can’t stomach him because they think he is beyond the pale.

“The reality is he is going to push for the break-up of this great union. The great image of our country will be no more.”

Mr Russell-Moyle branded Mr Johnson as “incompetent” because of his rocky term as foreign secretary.

The MP referenced the case of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, who was allegedly imprisoned by Iran because of comments from Mr Johnson.

“He didn’t stand up for British interests and even for British people, as evidenced by what happened in Iran,” he said.

“He actually made Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s situation worse.

“We’re going to face a time where he will pander to his best friend Donald Trump and all the other despots in the world.

“He has, of course, supported all these awful things that have left tens of millions of people on the breadline.”

Mr Russell-Moyle called for a General Election and a second referendum on Brexit “in whatever order”.

Hove MP Peter Kyle joined in on the attacks on Mr Johnson, calling him a “man-child”.

He said: “Based on his shambolic, rambling acceptance speech, Boris Johnson seems set to represent Britain on the world stage as the same man-child we’ve grown used to.

“Our country needs serious answers to the tough challenges we face and I’ve not seen a glimmer of possibility that Boris Johnson is up to the job.

“I will work harder than ever to give an effective voice to our community in these mad times.”

Brighton Pavilion MP Caroline Lucas said in a Facebook post Mr Johnson had “a history of racism, bigotry, and homophobia”.

She added: “He’s spent his political career in showmanship, theatrics and clever put-downs, playing the part of the pompous clown and embarrassing Britain on the world stage.

“He now has the keys to Number 10. Let’s hope the joke is on the Tory party, and not on the rest of us.”

Mr Johnson beat leadership rival Jeremy Hunt comfortably, winning 92,153 votes to Mr Hunt’s 46,656.
