A NAIL technician has been recognised after picking up a regional award.

Jaimie-Lee Brown, from Leigh, won the Nail Technician of the Year accolade at the inaugural North West Beauty Industry Awards in Manchester.

The 28-year-old, who previously worked as a carer, was presented with the award after a public vote and impressing a panel of judges.

Former St Mary's Catholic High School pupil Jaimie-Lee is self-employed and has a nail room at Alison Elizabeth Hair Salon on Firs Lane.

She said: "I did not expect to win the award at all.

“I was honestly shocked that I won.

"It was amazing to be shortlisted as a finalist, nevermind to actually win.

"There were people up for the awards that were qualified a lot longer than me.

"I have only been qualified for two-and-a-half years, so when I saw the opportunity to get involved in the awards I posted on my Facebook page just to see if any of my clients would vote. I had nothing to lose.

"Its because of my amazing clients that I am where I am today and will be eternally grateful they trust me to create beautiful nails.

"It is nice to achieve something like this.

"I absolutely love doing nails and it is a career I never thought I would be involved in."
