WORK has started on a housing development next to a metal recycling plant.

Construction has begun alongside Maxilead Metals' base in Mosley Common where 154 homes will be built.

Reflecting its history, the development will be known as Elements and comprise a mix of three and four bedroom detached and semi-detached homes, all with garages or off road parking.

The properties at the 13.1-acre Mosley Common Road site will offer open-plan fitted kitchens, contemporary family bathrooms and en suites to the master bedroom.

Bellway Homes sales director Hollie Reynolds said: “We’re delighted to announce our plans for Elements in Mosley Common.

"The development boasts a superb location close to good local schools and with strong transport links into Manchester and across the wider North West.

"A great blend of properties will be available appealing to a wide range of purchasers and all homes will be sold on a freehold basis.”

As part of the planning application, Bellway Homes is making Section 106 contributions totalling £781,248.

This includes £30,000 towards bus stops, £188,750 toward primary education and £392,600 towards secondary education.

A travel plan contribution of £2,500 and play equipment provision of £167,398 is involved too.

Construction at Elements is expected to take around two years.

Maxilead Metals are currently based at the site and will move into their new home north of Chanters Industrial Estate in Atherton next year.

Once moved the metal recycling facility will be demolished to make room for a new community hub including a proposed health centre, childrens day nursery along with retail and food outlets.

A sales launch will take place this autumn with show homes to follow in spring 2020.
