FREE football will be returning to Leigh this season.

Manchester United U23s will be kicking off their Premier League 2 home campaign when they play Reading at Leigh Sports Village on Friday at 7pm.

The majority of their home games will be played there this season.

Mason Greenwood, Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes, who have all starred for the first team, are some of the players that may feature for the team this season.

They will be keen to impress and catch the attention of first team manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has placed an emphasis on giving young talent a chance.

The first team’s 4-0 win over Chelsea yesterday, Sunday, featured six United players who learned their footballing trade at Leigh Sports Village.

Head of Academy Nicky Butt oversees the U23s' performances, and their season began with an impressive 5-0 victory away at West Bromwich Albion on Friday.

The U23s has new management team in place with lead coach Neil Wood being assisted by former Manchester United player Quinton Fortune.

“There are some fantastic young players in there and I’m just excited to be working with them,” said Fortune.

The first team’s 4-0 win over Chelsea this weekend featured no less than six United players who learned their footballing trade at Leigh Sports Village, making these games the perfect chance to see tomorrow’s stars of world football.
