RESIDENTS interested in volunteering are invited to an open day to find out more about the opportunities available at Wigan and Leigh Hospice.

The event takes place at the hospice’s Oak Centre on Kildare Street in Hindley on Friday, August 23 between 12.30pm and 3.30pm

Staff and current volunteers will be there to tell visitors about the range of roles available.

This includes reception work, volunteering in hospice shops, supporting the Inpatient Unit, driving, fundraising and administration.

HR and volunteer co-ordinator, Angela Monaghan, said: “There are a wide variety of roles which are carried out by volunteers so they are absolutely essential to the running of the hospice.

“People volunteer for a range of reasons – they may want to give something back to their local community, meet people or learn new skills. If volunteering is something you’ve thought about and you have a few hours to spare on a regular basis please do come down for a friendly, informal chat.”
