A STRONG sense of patriarchy will be in the air on at Atherton Central Park on Saturday, August 31.

Proms in the Park will be returning to the Bee Fold Lane park for the third year in a row with a host of entertainment on offer.

Tyldesley Brass Band will be playing a catalogue of classic British anthems before singer Goldenage Songbird takes to the stage to perform wartime hits.

Rock and roll group Reunion will have the honour of following them and add to the variety of music on display.

A range of community stalls including a cake sale will be set up at the family-friendly event, which starts at 7pm and is free to enter but a £1 donation per person is welcome to cover its cost.

People are welcome to bring their own chairs, food and refreshments as well.

When Proms in the Park was launched in 2017, 500 people attended on a rain-drenched occasion.

That figure trebled to 1,500 last year on a night in which joint organiser Natasha Hogkinson labelled a "roaring success".

Chairwoman for the Friends of Atherton Parks, Natasha, 27, said: "The atmosphere was brilliant last year.

"Everybody was waving their flags and people were up singing and dancing in front of the stage.

"The community spirit was great.

"We want the event to be accessible for people because it can be hard to get to event that is open to everyone.

"There is a variety of acts performing this year to suit everyone.

"Hopefully we can keep on building the popularity of Proms in the Park and that we get another big crowd coming again this year."

Flags will be on sale at the gate for 50p.

Gazebo pitches are also available to book for £10 each.

To book a pitch contact Natasha on 07527 555251 or send a Facebook message to the groups, Friends of Atherton Parks or Atherton Residents Association.

Natasha has also praised Atherton and Atherleigh councillors for each allocating money from their Brighter Borough funding and Ena Mill Retail for sponsoring the event.

Wigan Council has paid for the stage again.
