"IMMEDIATE action" is being taken to tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB) problems on a street in Leigh.

A meeting was held yesterday, Tuesday, to raise problems on Glebe Street, which was chaired by Leigh West councillors and attended by police, council officers, community groups.

Leigh MP Jo Platt was also there.

They discussed combining Greater Manchester Police's (GMP) revised neighbourhood enforcement plan with other actions to introduce "better cohesion" to the area.

In a joint statement following the meeting, Leigh West councillors said: "We agreed a number of actions, some immediate and some long term.

"We aim to build strong relationships between residents, GMP, council services, local agencies and community groups in the area, ensuring a local community informed strategy is developed.

"We fully acknowledge the situation with a need to revisit the steps in place to address residents' concerns.

"As previously reported we pressed for a rapid deployment camera to be installed to address the concerns and to form part of a wider strategy to tackle ASB in this area.

"The camera was installed by 9am on Monday, August 12 on the Glebe Street junction with Prescott Street.

"The police has stepped up patrols and revisited their strategy for all of Leigh.

"There are efforts to look at the service and power of the council to enforce landlords to be responsible for the ASB.

"The groups will meet again in October to review progress."
