THE University of Bolton has been named as the worst in the North West by The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2020.

The university has been ranked 125th out of 134 universities in the country and 12th out of 12 in the North West.

Despite sitting at the bottom of the regional rankings, University of Bolton reports the top scores in the North West for student satisfaction with teaching quality and their wider university experience.

Applications to the university increased by 10 per cent in the latest admissions cycle, and it has one of the highest proportions in the UK of undergraduates from areas without a tradition of higher education, at 22 per cent.

Lancaster University is the International University of the Year, remaining in the top spot in the North West, and is a regular presence in the UK top ten.

The Bolton News has approached the University of Bolton for comment.
