A teenage drug dealer who lied about his identify after being stopped by officers in Swanley has been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment at a young offenders institution.

Namik Hysa, 18, was seen "driving erratically" in Old Maidstone Road when patrols stopped him on July 1.

Checks showed the Vauxhall Astra was uninsured and Hysa, of Alexandra Road, Hampshire, produced a Romanian driving license when questioned.

He attempted to flee before being found in possession of 20 bags of white powder and cash totalling almost £200.

After being taken to custody Hysa insisted he was the Romanian man on the licence provided.

Police learned of his Albanian descent when a translator was called in to assist.

He was found guilty of possessing cocaine with intent to supply, driving without insurance and possessing a false document with improper intention.

Detective Constable Bob Fursey said: "The sentencing of Namik Hysa is another example of how just how effective our officers continue to be, in identifying and tackling those who try to sell drugs within our communities.

"It is important to remain focused though and we are never complacent. There remains a lot of hard work to do, to deal with people like Hysa whose actions can really devastate people’s lives.

"Support from the public also remains invaluable in helping us detect and also deter criminals from operating in your local areas. If you see anything suspicious please don’t hesitate to contact police by calling 101, or 999 if a crime is in progress."
