The AA has unveiled its Restaurant Guide 2020 to the best cuisine in Britain and an incredible 67 Cumbrian restaurants are featured this year.

The Guide contains over 2,000 restaurants currently awarded Rosettes for culinary excellence by the AA’s professional inspectors.

This includes 27 eateries from the north and west of the county, down to the Penrith area, with Windemere alone boasting 15 entries.

The Crown Hotel at Wetheral is the only venue in the Carlisle area that is in the Guide, with The Brossen Steakhouse featuring for Keswick, the Trout Hotel for Cockermouth and Fyr and the Devonshire Restaurant at the George Hotel representing Penrith.

Today's announcement follows the news that Cumbria now has seven kitchens that have a total of eight Michelin stars.

Three restaurants were awarded the stars for a first time - The Cottage in the Wood at Whinlatter, the Old Stamphouse in Ambleside and Askham Hall near Penrith.
