ANYONE passing through Glazebury last week may have noticed an army of scarecrows have been out in force.

Residents and businesses joined in with the village festival and used their creativity to dress scarecrows in a range of outfits.

Glazebury CE Primary School on Warrington Road also got involved in the fun.

The winning entry, as judged by John Bent, was “scrumping apples” by Jayne and Keith Roddy, of Hawk Hurst Farm on Jennetts Lane.

It was modelled on Keith’s uncle, the late John Patrick, and his wife Joan who still lives in the village.

The competition was devised by by All Saints Church Reverend Jan Harney.

Rev Jan Harney said: “The festival was my suggestion as I enjoy seeing them in other villages.

“Moving here made me realise what a warm community is here and I wanted people to notice us.

"It’s a great place to live.”

Rev Harney also praised Sue Leather who organised printing entry forms and posters as well as a prize-giving afternoon tea.

“The goodwill has been amazing and so encouraging,” Rev Harney added.

"Next year we will do the scarecrow festival in early September and we anticipate lots more residents will join in.”

Bents Garden and Home helped with the competition.
