Going out in a blaze of colour
The Dingle Gardens are open for the National Garden Scheme on both Saturday
and Sunday the 19th and 20th October providing us with a blaze of colour
for our final opening of 2019.
In the heart of rural Mid-Wales, a short drive up a country lane,
surrounded by stunning countryside, brings you to the unlikely setting of
the Dingle Nurseries, alongside which you will find the garden. It covers
an area of four acres and slopes at first gently, then more steeply, to a
small lake at the bottom of the bank. The garden was planned to look good
all year round and because it is so well protected from severe weather,
Autumn is breathtaking in its beauty. Shrubs and trees can turn colour so
slowly and gently, that the very best hues are evident. The famous
adjoining nursery, also open, sells a vast range of plants for the garden,
including many rare and specimen species. A plant collector's paradise.
The Dingle is at Welshpool, SY21 9JD; take A490 towards Llanfyllin and
Guilsfield and after a mile turn left at sign for Dingle Nurseries &
Garden. Enter the Garden from adjacent plant centre. The garden is open
from 9am until 5pm on both Saturday and Sunday, admission is £3.50 for
adults, children free. The entrance fees for this weekend will be donated
to the National Garden Scheme and over 80p in every pound goes to charity.
The National Garden Scheme is now the most significant charitable funder of
nursing in the UK; beneficiaries include Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie
Curie, Hospice UK and The Queen’s Nursing Institute.
This is the last of our garden openings for 2019 but there are still four
gardens open in by arrangement in October and November, so you can enjoy
autumn colours with friends at a time to suit you; all you need do is
contact the owner and arrange a time for an exclusive visit to one of these
gardens.
