TWO people suffered serious head injuries after a car crashed into a tree following a police pursuit last night, Tuesday.

Officers tried to stop a black Ford Mondeo on Atherton Road in Hindley shortly before 11pm.

The vehicle turned left onto Liverpool Road towards Platt Bridge and shortly afterwards the vehicle left the road and hit a tree.

Emergency services including three fire engines and a rescue unit were sent to the scene. Firefighters used cutting gear to free a man from the car.

The driver - a man in his 30s - and a passenger - a man in his 20s - suffered serious injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.

Three ambulances and a rapid response vehicle attended before paramedics treated the casualties and took them to hospital.

Police are appealing for information following the crash.

Constable Darren White of Greater Mamchester Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “While this collision occurred late at night, it was on a relatively busy road and we believe there may be witnesses who can assist our investigation.

“Did you see the Mondeo in the minutes before the collision? 

"Or perhaps you have dashcam footage that may help us piece together the events leading up to this incident?
