LEIGH town centre will be celebrating Christmas in style on Thursday, November 21.

Hometown singer Zoe Unsworth will be returning to the stage for the annual event outside Leigh Town Hall.

She will be joined by The Voice Kids UK star Jake Mckechnie, who has also performed in front of the town hall before.

Jamie Wooding, Emilia and the Westleigh Soul Band will also be appearing at the event, which runs from 4.30pm to 7pm.

Leigh Centurions will be making an appearance too.

Zoe Unsworth said: "I always love being involved with this event - it's great for all the family.

"There's always a fantastic turnout and I always have a ball!"

Fireworks will light up the sky to mark the celebrations and families will be able to enjoy themselves at a funfair

There will be no lights switched on at the town hall due to the ongoing refurbishment works but the town centre is set to look festive.

Three days later on Sunday, November 24, a reindeer parade will head through the town centre from 1pm.

Wigan Council has also announced there will be no charge at its car parks on weekdays after 3pm from Thursday, November 14 during the festive season.

The local authority is introducing free parking to encourage visitors into the town centre and help them to get a head start on their Christmas shopping.

Wigan Council leader, Cllr David Molyneux, said: “We’ve got a spectacular programme of family-friendly Christmas events lined-up and we hope everyone gets in the spirit and enjoys them.

“Free parking gives shoppers the perfect opportunity to visit the town’s top high street names, independent shops as well as its popular local markets.”
