CHILDREN and staff at St Gabriel’s Catholic Primary School in Higher Folds are shouting "fantástico" after being recognised for their Spanish skills.

The school has been presented with the Outstanding Primary Languages Development Award for the dedication, hard work and commitment displayed in learning the subject.

St Gabriel’s school has been handed the prize for its dedication, hard work and commitment to learning Spanish.

Head teacher Mrs Williams said: “The children are fully engaged in learning and this is opening doors to other cultures and deepening the children’s curiosity and understanding of the world, while providing lifelong skills and opportunities for their future.”

Pupils at the school, who are aged from 6-11, are taught the European language weekly by teacher Robert Artingstall through a range of fun methods including fun games, songs and activities.

Mr Artingstall said: "I'm really proud of the children's passion for learning Spanish and their enthusiasm for finding out about other countries and cultures.”
