DELAYS are to be expected on Chester Road this weekend due to the transportation of an abnormal load.

Motorists are advised that extra time may be required for journeys between 6am and 6pm on Sunday.

This is due to the movement of a new transformer from Stafford to Ellesmere Port Docks.

The transformer, which measures over 5 metres in width, 66 metres in length and 347 tonnes in weight, will leave Stafford a day earlier, Saturday.

But it is only expected to reach its destination after 6pm on Sunday.

On its journey, the transporter will travel through Stoke-on-Trent, Congleton, Holmes Chapel and Northwich before passing Chester and arriving in Ellesmere Port.

The transformer will be accompanied by a police escort throughout the journey.
