A GROUP that supports families with children who have disabilities is hosting a vintage tea party next week after a successful first five months of helping people.

Happy Days Special Needs Community Group held its first monthly get together at the All Saints Church hall on Kenwood Avenue in Leigh in June.

The events welcome families with children who suffer with any disabilities, giving them a chance to have fun and mix with other youngsters.

And to celebrate the inclusive group's success, it is holding a vintage tea party on Friday, November 29 at Leigh Miners Welfare Institute, which is now sold out.

Parents Sarah Gregory, Beverley Parr, Hannah Ellis, Helena Molyneux run the group.

Sarah has a five-year-old daughter Emily who has down syndrome and has been thriving in the group and making friends.

Children having fun at the group meet-ups

Mum-of-two Sarah, 35, from Leigh, said: "We have had really good feedback about the group so far.

"We are reaching quite a lot of families and they have been returning each month.

"We see the children making friends and providing support for each other.

"I think the group is massively important for the people of Leigh. It is not specific to one specific need.

"Emily is absolutely loving it and making new friends and my seven-year-old Jackson is as well.

"It is good for the whole family."

The group, which welcomes families who have children that have not been given a diagnosis for their condition, provides support for parents to help them deal with aspects such as challenging behaviour.

Earlier this year, family and friends from the group also completed a Hell Run obstacle course event at Delamere Forest and raise around £3,000for the group.

And next week singer Vicky Bee will be performing live at the vintage tea party, which will boast a fashion show with goods on sale and prizes up for grabs.

All proceeds will go to the group.
