A DOCTOR has been awarded a top honour for his work as a GP and leader of the medical team at practices across the North West.

Dr Olukayode Adeeko, a GP in Leigh and medical director of SSP Health, which runs practices across the borough, has been given the Certificate of Commendation by the Royal College of General Practice, one of the highest accolades in primary care.

Dr Adeeko Dr Adeeko, who is a GP at Leigh Family Practice, in Bridgewater Medical Centre, says he is overjoyed at the honour – conferred on him at a Fellowship ceremony in London for the outstanding work he has carried out across the north of England – saying it is the “pinnacle” of his medical career.

In October, he was also named as GP of the Year in the RCGP Mersey Faculty annual awards.

He said: “I am very pleased and feel incredibly proud to receive this coveted award. It is such a huge honour and privilege to join past recipients, distinguished GPs who have made remarkable and outstanding contributions to general practice. This is the pinnacle of my career so far.”

Dr Adeeko thanked the owners of SSP Health for their support throughout his career as a family doctor.

He added: “I’m greatly indebted to Drs Sanjay and Shikha Pitalia for their support and mentorship over the years. They have been truly inspirational. They are visionary leaders who are determined to improve the healthcare delivery to the people of the North West using a federated model of care, a system now being embraced and adopted by all and sundry.

“My special thanks go to my colleagues, past and present, for their hard work and incredible contributions to patient care, often under challenging circumstances.”
