PLANS to turn a former hairdressers into a takeaway have been refused by planning officers after objections were made by residents.

A change-of-use application to convert a property on Holden Road in Leigh into a food outlet was submitted to Wigan Council.

A total of 10 objections and two letters of support were made about the proposals.

People expressed concerns surrounding the "impact on the residential amenity of neighbouring residents due to increased noise" and that the shop may "create further issues with anti-social behaviour with gangs congregating".

An increase in parking problems for neighbours and odours from the cooking of hot food were cited in the representations as well.
