A PUBLIC consultation survey giving residents and businesses the chance to have their say on a four-year project designed to transform Tyldesley town centre has been extended.

In September, Tyldesley resident Ian Tomlinson's community transport charity Driven was awarded £1.7m in principle from Heritage England to make improvements to Elliott Street over the next four years.

Ian, 58, and his friend Paul Kinsella, 56, who works in construction, are in charge of creating a Heritage Action Zone (HAZ) in which they will set out to bring buildings back into use and boost the town’s shopping and social experience.

It is hoped money will also be provided by property owners through match funding.

In the first round of a community consultation, more than 30 individuals in the area and businesses have had their say on the project.

And now in the second and final phase, a Wigan Council "Our Town Market Research" survey will remain open until Tuesday, December 31 so more people and businesses can give their opinions.

Ian and Paul, who also lives in Tyldesley, want to ensure the community's top priorities are addressed as they plan heritage and cultural events for the town.

Ian added: “We both want the town to grow and thrive so everyone can benefit from this investment for years to come.

"We are already planning the legacy and we want more people to get involved with it."
