A FATHER is angry and frustrated after the family car was damaged by a bin lorry.

The man, who does not wish to be named, was shocked to find a large dent in the back of his car on Monday (December 9) morning as he was about to take his children to school.

There was no clue to what happened - until a neighbour said he had caught the shocking incident on CCTV.

The video footage appears to show a refuse lorry reversing into the quiet road in the Penycae area of Wrexham as collectors walk along the pavement.

The lorry then crashes into the back of the parked car, causing it to jolt and hit the kerb.

Someone gets out of the cab to inspect the damage while one of the collectors watches with their hands on their head.

The car owner said: "I came out to do the school run and saw the big dent in the back of my car. I had no idea what had happened.

"Then my neighbour sent me the CCTV.

"I couldn't believe it when I watched it. The bin lorry comes around the corner then it goes bombing along the street until it hits my car."

"It all happened at about 8.30am - a couple of minutes later and my three children would have been in the car ready to be taken to school."

The situation has been made worse as no note was left and the car owner has yet to be contacted by Wrexham Council, meaning he is unable to sort his insurance and a courtesy car - meaning the family could be without a vehicle for 21 days.

He added: "It was in gear and the handbrake was on when it went up on the kerb so I don't know what damage has been done. I don't feel safe taking the children in it.

"My own insurance has offered a small courtesy car, but we have three children that use car seats and booster seats so it is not big enough.

"The children's grandparents have helped out to take the children to school but they are in their seventies so it is not ideal."

The vehicle appears to be one of the new bin-collection trucks introduced by Wrexham Council this year a part of the drive to deliver a more modern, reliable and efficient waste collection service to the residents of Wrexham.

A spokesman for Wrexham Council said: “This incident has been brought to our attention, and we are investigating the matter.”
