HERE are seven community events approaching soon:

Children’s panto

BEAUTY and the Beast is coming to Leigh Cricket, Tennis and Bowling Club on Saturday, January 11.

The Chaplins children’s pantomime will take place at the Beech Walk club at 1.30pm.

Doors will open at noon.

Fishing match

GOLBORNE Ex Miners annual fishing match will take place on Saturday, March 21.

It will be held at The Cunneries in Chorley where the draw will take be held at 9am and the match will start at 10.30am and finish at 3.30pm.

The event supports the costs of commemorative marches in Golborne to mark the Golborne mining disaster, in which 10 men died following an underground explosion on March 18, 1979.

The fishing match costs £25, which includes a donation, or £30, including entry into a raffle.

Dancing event

PRIMARY and high school children are set to show off their dancing skills at an inaugural event next month.

Youngsters from borough schools will perform in the first Let’s Dance in Leigh event on Thursday, February 27. It will be held at Leigh Leisure Centre, Leigh Sports Village from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

The WigLe Dance CIC event will also include a special guest.

Panto on stage

PANTOMIME Dick Whittington and His Cat will be performed at St Joseph’s Hall in Leigh in 11 performances including matinee shows from January 22 to February 1.

Every ticket will be on offer at the Chapel Street venue for £5 on January 22, 23 and 29.

Call for volunteers

A LOTTERY-FUNDED group is urging more residents to get involved in their community this year.

Leigh Neighbours is keen to support schemes, campaigns and events and hopes more people will volunteer their time.

The group, which is based on Walmesley Road, is led by a management board made up of residents and others involved in the community.

Film screening

SECOND World War film The Keeper will be screened at The Turnpike Centre in Leigh on Friday, January 31.

The drama, which follows a German paratrooper after he has been captured as a prisoner of war, will be shown at 7.30pm

Afternoon tea

THOSE looking for somewhere different to have afternoon tea may want to go to Golborne Sports and Social Club on Stone Cross Lane on Thursday, January 16.

The afternoon tea event will take place between noon and 2pm.
