A MAN has died in a horrific crash on the M602.
The motorway has been closed since the incident happened at around 11.50am this morning (Friday).
Police have been investigating the area for most of the day and have now confirmed that a 61-year-old man has died as a result of a collision.
The closure is causing long queues of traffic around Salford, with particular problems on the East Lancs Road, Liverpool Road and Worsley Road, where there are diversions.
Normal traffic conditions were expected to return at 2.30pm, but the road is now set to be closed until at least 11.45pm.
Immediately after the crash, a spokesman for GMP said: "At around 11.50am on Friday 17 January 2020, police were called to reports of a collision involving two vehicles.
"The road is closed in both directions between junctions one and two and is expected to remain that way for several hours.
"We would advise people to avoid the area where possible.
"No arrests have been made and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
"Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 4741 quoting 1101 17/01/20."
